The FIA has wrapped up its review of the 2024 budget cap, settling rumors that have been swirling around the paddock lately.
Nine teams followed the money rules perfectly, while Aston Martin hit a small snag.
“9 F1 teams were found in compliance for 2024, while a procedural breach was identified for AMR GP Ltd (Aston Martin),” the FIA confirmed in its statement.
This means every other team managed to stay within the $145 million spending limit without any financial irregularities.
What exactly did Aston Martin do wrong? Not much, apparently.
The FIA explained that “although AMR has been found to be in Procedural Breach, it has not exceeded the Cost Cap level, and the Procedural Breach was of a very minor nature, originating from unpredictable circumstances outside the team’s control.”
To resolve the issue, the FIA and Aston Martin entered into an Accepted Breach Agreement on September 29.
The problem? A missing signature on required documentation.
No financial penalties were imposed on the British team, with the FIA acknowledging they “acted cooperatively and in good faith throughout the review process.”
The governing body also made it clear there’s “no accusation or evidence that AMR sought or gained any undue advantage as a result of the breach.”
It’s worth noting that all five power unit manufacturers also passed their financial reviews with flying colors.
## F1 paddock responds to Aston Martin’s paperwork slip
The news of Aston Martin’s procedural breach naturally got people talking in Mexico City ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix.
Team bosses from Ferrari, Sauber, and Haas were asked about the situation during Friday’s press conference.
Their reactions varied, though most seemed to view it as a minor administrative error rather than anything worth getting worked up about.
“These things happen with complex regulations,” one team principal noted, though they declined to be drawn into speculation about the specifics.
The consensus seemed to be that a missing signature doesn’t compare to actually exceeding the spending cap, which would have triggered much more serious consequences.
